Emily’s final student placement ends

Carolina House Trust welcomes students from the University of Dundee’s Social Work and Community Learning and Development degree programmes. Emily, a 4th year Social Work student has been with us for four months. Emily has had the opportunity to support our foster carers as a student Supervising Social Worker and learn how the role ensures we are providing safe and nurturing homes.

Although the final weeks of her placement have been spent working from home due to Scottish Government guidance, Emily has had an opportunity to work in Head Office, at our community events and in our foster carer and young people’s homes. She is working to complete her degree this year.

Emily shared a few words before finishing up.

Working with the CHT team has been a pivotal experience in my Social Work training. Every part of the community has made me feel welcome, valued and contributed to my learning experience. The foster carers have shown how love, consistency, and understanding makes a huge positive impact on the life of young people who need it the most. The young people’s resilience and zest for life, despite their past experiences, has been a great joy to witness. The team has given me the space to grow and learn with guidance, humour and without fear of judgment.

Four months ago, when starting this placement, I had no concrete plans for career options after graduation, but thanks to my fantastic time at CHT, I have decided to pursue a job in Fostering and Continuing Care. The last four months spent with CHT has shaped who I aim to be as a professional in the future. I want to extend my sincere gratitude to the whole community for allowing me to learn and ask silly questions.

Forever thankful,
