Fostering organisation, Carolina House Trust is celebrating the announcement that they are the 9th Best Workplace for Development in the UK.
Based in Dundee, the charity supports foster carers and the children and young people in their care. Sara Lovelock, Chief Operating Officer for Carolina House Trust said: “Our inclusion in the UK’s Best Workplaces for Development is a testament to the Growth Mindset culture and the value that we place on supporting people to achieve their potential. I want to thank our community members for their positive engagement with the varied learning opportunities that are offered. There is a positive correlation between having skilled and knowledgeable staff and carers and improved outcomes for our young people.”
New for this year, the UK’s Best Workplaces for Development List recognises organisations making employee development a key part of company culture. These workplaces offer employees the chance to better themselves, to learn new skills, and to progress in their profession.
This accreditation follows being named a Great Place to Work in November 2024 and 9th in the top 100 small organisations in March 2025. The charity was also named People Pioneer winners at the Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce Champions Awards in autumn 2024. This latest announcement confirms Carolina House Trust’s position as a leading organisation in the area for training and development of its 12 staff and community of foster carers, children and young people and volunteers.
Employee feedback recorded by Great Place to Work showed the team recognises its commitment to growth mindset, learning and development and wellbeing, celebrating mistakes as learning opportunities. The organisation offers over 30 learning and development sessions each year.
“Training and development aren’t just about helping employees perform their day-to-day tasks – it’s about demonstrating that people are valued and that there’s a clear path for growth. When employees can’t see opportunities ahead, they’re less likely to be fully engaged, which can harm both productivity and retention,” said Benedict Gautrey, Managing Director of Great Place To Work UK.
“Development is all about looking forward – it shows a commitment to an employee’s long-term potential.”
Carolina House Trust is currently recruiting foster carers in East and Central Scotland to join their community and provide a child with a safe and nurturing home, ably supported by a team passionate about their personal and professional development.
About Great Place to Work
To compile the UK’s Best Workplaces for Development List, Great Place to Work reviewed company culture, benefits, approach to leadership and development, alongside anonymous responses from employees. They then used these data insights to benchmark the company’s employee value proposition against the culture employees actual experience. Only the businesses that achieve the highest scores after evaluation receive Best Workplaces status.
