We are saddened to learn Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has died.
Founded in 1815 under the reign of George III, we were known as the Dundee Royal Orphan Institute when the Queen succeeded the throne in 1952. Her reign of 70 years spanned a time of great change in the care of children and young people, and also in our own organisation. We have transformed from a Victorian orphanage to today’s provider of family-based care.
Our 9th sovereign and a patron of over 800 charities over her reign, the Queen was dedicated to duty and passionate about the impact that charitable organisations could make in society. Her service inspired generations of volunteers. She once said, ‘the cumulative impact of thousands of small acts of goodness can be bigger than we imagine.’
Today’s staff team, who have never known another monarch, share their condolences with the Royal Family and all those who mourn the Queen’s passing.
