We are proud to announce the winner of the inaugural Eileen Ferguson Achievement Award is Robert Spinks. Robert received his award from Sara Lovelock, our Chief Operating Officer.
Robert was selected as the first-ever recipient of this growth mindset award by the staff team at Carolina House Trust. They were impressed by his facilitation of a cooking class at CHT Head Office for children and young people.

Robert has trained in cookery and is currently working in hospitality. Our Support Workers asked him to design and deliver a cookery class to the young people we support. Robert taught the young people to make a healthy meal of ramen noodles with homemade ice cream as a treat. Robert kept the young people engaged throughout, and their feedback was positive.
The award was created in tribute to Eileen Ferguson, a former employee and trustee of Carolina House Trust. Her family generously donated a sum collected in her memory, as Eileen was so passionate about our work supporting children and young people. We thought it most fitting to recognise a young person who had demonstrated a growth mindset to achievement in the previous 12 months.

We were pleased to welcome Eileen’s husband, Richard, to our community BBQ so he could spend time with the staff and foster carers who had worked with Eileen and share memories of her contributions. Richard also met Robert’s foster carer, Shirley, and heard what the achievement meant to Robert, who missed the event due to work. Something we know Eileen, as a hard-working person, would have been proud of.
