Transfer from another fostering provider - Carolina House Trust

Transfer from another fostering provider

January 8, 2026

Existing foster carers can choose to transfer to Carolina House Trust

If you are already fostering in Scotland, you can be assessed to foster with Carolina House Trust after 12 months.

Transfer protocols guide the way in which fostering services should manage the movement of foster carers between fostering services. They have been developed by The Fostering Network and reflect legislation, regulations and statutory guidance governing fostering services.

Will I have to be assessed?

Yes, foster carers who are already registered with another provider have to be assessed by Carolina House Trust and approved by our Fostering Panel. This process will take up to six months, and we will be as thorough as if we were assessing new carers. You need to inform your current provider that you intend to transfer, and you then sign an agreement to release relevant records and a reference.

Can the young people I am fostering remain in my care?

Yes. Planning to move providers should be child-centred and allow for the children and young people’s views to be heard. When it’s in the best interest of the child, they will remain with the transferring carers. Their Local Authority Social Workers will be informed and included.

Why would I move to Carolina House Trust?

There are several reasons why foster carers transfer to another fostering provider, such as Carolina House Trust. Foster carers who have transferred to CHT cite enhanced support, the extended family feel of our community and the standard of training and development as reasons for transfer.

Independent providers may cease operating, and their foster carers can look for alternative providers for assessment.

Most often, foster carers seek an alternative provider when the support they receive changes or their needs change.

Our support includes:

  • A dedicated Supervising Social Worker who will see you regularly for in-person supervision
  • 24/7 on-call support provided by our own Supervising Social Workers
  • A busy calendar of learning and development sessions
  • A considered and planned matching process with young people
  • Support workers who can offer one-to-one support for young people
  • Regular community events
  • Participation and holiday activities for young people
  • A Head Office in Dundee with a resource room, training facilities and lounge area
  • Fees and allowances to recognise your commitment and experience
